My Nature Notebook

The My Nature Notebook set comprises a children’s notebook and adult guide to allow children to deepen their relationships and connection with both nature and themselves. Focus is placed on carefully crafted invitations drawing upon the power of the five senses to awaken the benefits of time spent outdoors.

My Nature Notebook: Adventures for the Senses helps children discover the simple joys of being outside and noticing nature through their senses. Using a sketchbook format, the pages offer ‘invitations;’ gentle prompts that guide children to connect with nature using creativity and personal expression. As children move through the notebook, they will build a repertoire of self-regulation strategies, appreciate that nature can be noticed everywhere, reflect on how their body and mind respond to being in nature, and create a deep sense of reciprocity with the natural world. Most pages are designed to be taken outside and completed in situ, however, some can be completed inside too.

My Nature Notebook Facilitator’s Guide contains guidance, notes, prompts, and extension ideas for helping the adult to bring out the best experience for the child. Each invitation page in My Nature Notebook has a corresponding page in the guide, helping the adult feel confident in their delivery of the material and in supporting children through their notebook.

This set offers a fresh twist on creative outdoor experiences, boosting wellbeing and emotional resilience, and above all, fostering a lifelong love of the natural world. It is an essential resource for teachers, learning support staff, outdoor leaders, youth workers, counsellors, parents and guardians who are supporting children aged 7-12 in nature, both in groups and one-to-one.
