Advance in manufacturing of Metal matrix nano composites in casting

Metal matrix composite (MMC) is a metal matrix reinforced with a second phase which may be a ceramic of various sizes. Metal matrix nano composites (MMNCs) are the ones with nano-sized reinforcements. Numerous processing techniques have been developed to manufacture MMNCs on the commercial scale including semi-solid technique (compocasting) in which mixing of reinforcing nano particles into the matrix is facilitated by the high effective viscosity of the metal slurry. EMS assisted compocast composites offer uniform distribution of nano particles with concomitant superior wear resistance. This book elaborates on optimization, fabrication and characterization of nano Al2O3 reinforced Al matrix composites. Adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system combined with particle swarm optimization method can be used for optimization of the process parameters.
