Podrobné informácie

Over the past decades, the United Nations has made progress in securing the rights of women and girls globally. One of such is the 1995 Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which establishes the responsibility of governments for promoting equality. In the context of the twenty-five-year review of the implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action, a historical perspective allows for a critical assessment of progress made in Nigeria for the advancement of women in terms of the delivery of commitments and the gaps and obstacles that will need to be addressed in the years to come. In Nigeria, real change has been slow for most women and girls and more needs to be done to consolidate on the successes thus far. Just as 1995 was an opportunity to coordinate actions on the global stage, 2020 also comes not a moment too soon to celebrate progress achieved, no matter how little while looking at the future. This book accesses the progressive growth of the advancement of the rights of women and gender equality in Nigeria since 1995 by examining successes and setbacks, in theory and in practice, in terms of actions taken by the Nigerian Government in six critical areas of action.
