Eric Ravilious at the Fry

The art of Eric Ravilious (1903-1942) captured the spirit of the twentieth century: modern English watercolours, witty and concise wood engravings, and a range that spanned designs for Wedgwood ceramics and the Everyman Library. The Fry Art Gallery in Saffron Walden - which shares with Ravilious an Essex home - holds a unique collection of his work, beautifully illustrated here and accompanied by illuminating new texts by Frances Spalding and Alan Powers. Frances Spalding explores Ravilious's work and biography, including his creative relationship with North West Essex. Alan Powers examines his innovative work in twentieth-century design, in particular his wood cuts and his work for Wedgwood.
