Stephen King – an author who influenced generations of readers and aspiring writers.
King’s entire canon reprinted as a unified collection.
Just a handful of modern authors enjoy such name recognition as Stephen King. Even if you have never picked up a book of his, I am sure every one of us has, at some point, come across a movie adaptation of his stories. And I dare say that a lot of us have favorites among them. After all, how many of us started to believe in the power of hope while watching the Shawshank Redemption? Or dove into the darkest corners of the human mind with Kubrick’s Shining? How many of us sobbed uncontrollably watching John Coffey walking the green mile or had our hearts jumping out of our chests while watching the horror phenomenon It?
Simply said, Stephen King is a master of his craft and is rightly referred to as the “King of Horror.” His stories are still relevant and enjoy immense popularity among readers and viewers alike. Which is one of the reasons Hodder & Stoughton decided to embark on the truly ambitious journey of reissuing the entire King backlist consisting of more than 70 titles, which will be rounded up by an anniversary edition of Carrie.

As usual with such project feasts, the best way to eat it, so to speak, is one bite at a time. And so between May 2021 and April 2024, we’re getting all of King’s brilliance in 11 digestible doses. For King newbies, the good news is that the books are not reissued in chronological order, but rather thematically, which makes the initial choice much easier. Would you rather dig into a collection of short stories, a fantasy saga, or maybe an entrancing thriller? Esthetically-based readers are also in for a treat. All the books in the series have matching covers and spines that do differ a little according to the theme bunch, but not so much that it disrupts the general outlook. And boy do they look good together on the shelf.
So far, 7 out of the 11 planned bunches are available.

In case you’re still unsure where to start with King, I can wholeheartedly recommend Misery, Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption, Salem’s Lot, The Institute and, of course, The Shining. Whether you decide on one or the other, I believe these new editions deserve your attention. And who knows, maybe you’ll become a King collector. After all: “I am your number one fan. There is nothing to worry about. You are going to be just fine. I am your number one fan!” (Misery)
